College Application Process
- Application: The Waterford Mott High School Counseling Department recommends that students complete their applications by October 1. Application deadlines, however, vary by school.
- Get started early! On-line applications typically become available at the end of June so begin looking at what the applications require of you. This will help get you organized before the beginning of your senior year.
- Know which schools to which you intend to apply by the end of your junior year. We recommend a minimum of 3 schools; one of your schools should be a 'safe' school option.
- Over the summer between junior and senior year, go to the school websites of your selected schools and locate the online application. Create your account. This will enable you to work on your application without restriction before a final submission. Applications vary: some schools adhere to the Common Application and others utilize their own unique application.

- Transcripts
- Waterford Mott High School participates in an e-transcript initiative, in which all student transcripts will be submitted online via Parchment. Visit Transcript page for more details.
- Standardized Test Results
- These scores MUST be 'official.' This is accomplished by two means:
- When sitting for the standardized exam, students can submit 4 schools to have scores sent officially for FREE. This is the method counselors recommend. SCHOOLS EXPECT TO RECEIVE ALL SCORES FROM ALL EXAMS TAKEN.
- Go to www.collegeboard.org/SAT or www.actstudent.org to order exams separately. There is a $12 fee per exam, per school for this service for SAT and $13 for ACT.
- These scores MUST be 'official.' This is accomplished by two means:
- Letters of Recommendation
- If the college or university that you are applying to requires a letter of recommendation from a teacher or a counselor, you should give whomever you are asking to write a letter for you plenty of notice (at least two weeks). It is helpful if you can provide the writer with a resume outlining your accomplishments. "Brag" sheets can be found in the counseling office.
- Send the recommendation link from the application website directly to your teacher and/or counselor recommender.

- When considering your 4 year plan for high school, students need to be aware of college admission requirements. It is the student's responsibility to know the admission requirements for the colleges/universities they are considering.
- The Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) Graduation Requirements (with no exchanges or substitutions) follow what most colleges and universities require for admissions.
- Recent changes to the MMC allow students to make substitution or exchanges in the curriculum. For example, the 3rd year of science can be exchanged for completion of a CTE program and the 2nd year of a foreign language can be exchanged for an additional Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts credit OR completion of a CTE program. These exchanges are meant for students that plan to enter into a Career and Technical field. Students planning to attend a 4 year college or university should plan to take 4 full years of Math, 4 full years of English, 3 full years of Social Studies, 3 full years of Science, and 2 full years of the same World Language.
